In this blog, I want to share my experience about one of the most amazing cities in Europe, Athens, Greece. I have been in more than 35 countries and countless cities around the world. The beauty of my hometown, Athens is incomparable.
The best thing about Athens is that it can be visited all year long without worrying about the weather. There are endless things to do and I would recommend you to spend at least a week in order to maximize your learning and fun experience.
-How to get there
Being the capital of Greece, Athens has a massive airport just outside the city where flights arrive from all over the world. Thus, the prices of flights are't overwhelming.
-Where to stay
Depending on your preferences, you could either stay in the center of the city, consequently close to all the sightseeing, restaurants and bars. Otherwise, you could stay outside the center, which is usually more affordable. You could reach the center by car (5-10min drive) or by subway (metro), which is very easy and convenient.
Athens' beauty is not limited to the city center with all the monuments. If you really enjoy nature and relaxation, you can drive by the port Piraeus and enjoy the clean Mediterranean sea while having a delicious seafood lunch in a traditional tavern. I would recommend fried calamari with Greek Ouzo.
Last but not least, Acropolis. Millions of tourists visit Athens to visit the Parthenon in Acropolis. Trust me, it will be the highlight of the trip. Hiking your way to the top of the hill will be tiring, but once you reach the top, you will be speechless. On your way down, I would suggest you visited the brand new museum that will give you a better look of what was built 500 BCE.
